Hi

Is this the best place to post on? I’m going in for my band surgery tomorrow. I’m really scared. I don’t really have any emotional support at home. I have a 15year old son so worried about how I will cope. Also it’s concerning that there might not be any improvement in the weight up to 6months. Really want to do this but how do I prepare even food wise for the next few days?

Try not to worry and I know that is easy said than done.  Most patients tolerate the surgery really well and more often find the wind the most troublesome.

Again the weight loss, some people react really well as soon as the band is in place and do see a weight loss, also depending how hard you work with it at the start.  Your band will need several adjustments to get it up and running (but you may see a decrease in portions from the off, so try not to get too concerned at this stage). Post op the focus should be healing and allowing the band to settle well on the stomach

You are going to be on fluids only for the first 2 weeks – if you look on the liquids section there is meal plan ideas for this stage to help you out.  But basically fluids with no bits, soups can be blended and meal shakes.  Good fortified fluids should be taken to help with the healing process too.
