In 24 hours I’m about to start the 2 week diet before having the gastric band procedure. I know this is the right thing for me to do but I’m really nervous/anxious. I’m posting this so I can keep a record of my journey.

      Hi Chrish

      Thanks for posting

Not long now – it’s natural to be nervous. I bet you’re a bit excited too though – finally you will have a tool that can make losing weight easier.

The pre – op diet is strict so it can be tough but just remember it’s only for 2 weeks and that’s whats needed for your surgery .  Drink lots of water , take a daily multivitamin and mineral supplement and keep busy – if you’re tempted to snack at night try a long. hot  bath and an early night 😉

Good luck and keep us posted x

Hi Chrish, hope ya ok, It was a little while since my preop diet but I can remember dreading it too.  It was not so much the diet itself that I feared, (I’ve been on enough of them to last me a lifetime LOL)  but it felt like the reality of the start of the surgery journey that just made me think oh hell this is it!   I think there was a little bit of excitement mixed in too so this may be the same for you.  Keep posting, we are all in this together and its good to know you have support there if you need it too

      Hugs to you, Kim xxxxxx

      Hi everyone

I’m feeling the same right now nervous 😥 and excited  😊 cause I’m not sure if I can make it. I’m  at my last 24h before my pre op diet begins. But I have a question too!! Can I have any food that has 0 calories during the diet. I have chosen the milk diet plan but can I have any fruits or so that has no calories??

      Hi Meryem

aw I’m sure you will do fine on it – it’s strict but drink lots of water and keep busy to distract yourself   It’s not for long and try and see it as that is what is getting you through to your surgery.

Its the calories and carbohydrate levels you have to watch for the pre – op. The hospital group guidelines for example are less than 1000 calories daily and 100g of carbs so as long as you are within that it’s fine. They have 3 options to choose from though so if one doesn’t  suit you you can change.  There aren’t really any fruits that are carb and calorie free so you are better sticking to the plan in the book. You can have bovril / oxo drinks and sugar free jelly as an extra Other extras would come at the expense of something else already listed on the plan

If you are confused at all or struggling with it you could always book another call in with your Dietitian for more info x

hi I’m doing my pre op diet and I’m on my second week and doing it all by the book, how much do people lose on the pre op? Thanks Andrea x

      Hi Andrea

Apologies only just seen this thread

the pre op diet is all about shrinking the liver so the weight loss isn’t really a focus.  You find people more often do get quite a good loss during the diet but then again some can only lose a few pounds.   Are you on the Facebook group? You could shout out to the other members and see what they say – the groups bandboozled bariatrics – it’s a closed group just for members

Hope all is going well for you xx
