Hi Lindsay
Welcome to the site firstly…. yes there is so much to get in order prior to your surgery your right. ..!!! Sue will give you some advice regarding the pre op diet don’t worry.
You can take a chewable multivitamin if this suits you better, just make sure you chew it till it dissperses in the mouth and don’t be tempted to chew only a few times and then swallow it…!!
Best to get this in order in plenty of time for sure.
Exciting times – when is your surgery date…???
Love

Hi Lindsay – well done for getting organised in advance. Generally you can have any drink that’s almost calorie / carbohydrate ( sugar ) free. So water, carbonated water, diet drinks, sugar free squash, herbal teas and yes you can make a small bovril drink or an oxo drink occasionally too
Vitamin supplements can be chewable so something like centrum fruity chewables Superdrug A-Z chewable it bassets soft and chewy active health are all fine.
Just bear in mind that every bariatric provider may have slightly different guidelines though so you can always check with them too . This advice is in line with The Hospital Groups Guidelines xx

Just to add that these vitamins will be fine till week 5 after the band is placed then you can go back into solid tablets – once you are managing normal diet x

Thank you so much for getting back to me.
Starting to stress and just want to make sure I have everything in and ready and can only find chewable a-z and didn’t want to buy if they weren’t right.
apart from a-z what other vitamins should I be taking before and after op?
also I had sue ring last night but all these questions have just come to mind do you know if I will have another call or will I need to arrange one before op or? I am so confused and feel little bit puzzled at who I need to speak to when I speak to them that kind of thing which is making me worry.
i have pre op Thursday ready for op on 26th can I just ask them all my questions? Or have I gotta book different appointment or oh I don’t know haha
lindsay x

Hi Lindsey. It’s Sue here that you spoke to last night.
You can ask all your questions at the pre – op on thurs. if you have any questions about your hospital stay, transport, payment etc it would be your patient advisor you would speak to. If you have any medical or dietary queries you can call the weight loss surgery support centre for hospital group patients on 0121 445 7547
for any general questions you can ask here – try not to worry xx
you will also get a nurse call a few days after the band is placed and a dietetic call 2 weeks post op. Any problems before that though you can ring the above number xx

And after the op a multivitamin and mineral supplement should be fine. That’s all we generally recommend unless you have any specific deficiencies or your diet isn’t balanced. Your dietitian will be able to check this at your post – op calls xx

Ahhh brill, yeah option 3 is amazing I love it and actually finding it so easy when I first prepared like measured all pasta out in to little potions and chickens and stuff just to prep I was like wow I am going to be so hungry that’s not going fill me that tiny bit food but my god it really does and tonight I didn’t finish a meal I couldn’t believe it but so far so good 6lb off so far in 5 days 9 more to go 🙂 the op I can’t wait I am more worried about drive back from Birmingham as I live Newcastle and think am I going be in pain in car etc can you recommend any liquid pain killers for after? Xx

Hopefully the journey won’t be too bad for you. You will be given some pain relief to take away on discharge
You could always be prepared and get some liquid paracetamol. Depending on your pain you can always try a dissolvable co-codamol (thats if you can tolerate codeine ok) remember this has paracetamol in too so don’t take additional paracetamol with the co-codamol. Codeine can also play havoc with your bowel – and constipation is not great. So try the paracetamol first and see how you go – maybe take a pillow with your for your journey home, you might even manage a little sleep. Plan in a few little stops too so you can stretch your legs – hopefully you’ll be home before you know
Exciting times 😊

People say the wind pain is the worse. So might be wise to get in some wind remedies to aid this for when you get home
You could try – chewable windeze, gripe water or peppermint tea
By keeping up and mobile will help break it down too

yep xx it was wind pain with me – nothing else – but it is painful – gently rubbing will help shift it – it tends to feel like its in your collar bone and shoulder not in yr tummy as you might expect … i’d swerve codeine like Nic n Sue say as you don’t need constipation when yr digestive area is post op. Keep moving around will help the wind better than lying in bed …. good luck – it ll all go fine – i flew out to Belgium for mine 15 years ago on a Sunday evening. I’d told no-one. Night in hotel, op next day, overnight in hosp, back to hotel next morning then plane home the next day. I d parked my car at the airport n drove myself home no trouble. Was just the wind pain which bugged me. You should take it easy post op for a few days but keep up and about if you can, even if yr just watching TV on the sofa. You are not ill … you ve just taken your first step to a new fanatastic life 🙂 xxxxx

Good luck hun xxxx honestly – you will be fine, during and post op xx Don’t expect too much of yourself too soon – till you get your fill level correct weight loss can be slow – but id take 1/2 lb a week of loss than the same of gain. There was nothing like this site when i was post op – keep posting here and you ll get all the advice you need – and of course, those essential hugs for when you just feel fed up and a bit of a wobbly human xx ((( ))

Hey had op yesterday no problems at all but trapped wind and forgetting I can just get up quick having to take it easy, back home now and on the pepper mint tea and water only managed an actimal drink off hospital and have of a strawberry weebix drink just not hungry at all. So far feeling ok just bit tender but doctor and whole experience was brilliant and super happy with tiny scars so all in all I am super happy. Xxx

This is great news
Hopefully each day you will be feeling that bit better also
Take things easy – remember to sip slowly over the next few days as the swelling around your stomach peaks
The absence of hunger is great – this unfortunately will start to kick back in as the swelling settles – but all part of the healing process
great news and keep us updated on things

Hi Lyndsey. Yes the 10 ml band is by far the most popular size used at a THG
How are you feeling ?

I am feeling ok just bit sore the trapped wind is ok I can cope just dull pain. Issues is I am not hungry or thirsty and struggling to get fluids in xxx
-
28th August 2018 at 8:21 am #9004Team BandBoozledKeymaster
If you aren’t getting much in try to sip almost continuously through the day – small sips and have a 20 sec rest between each one. Your urine colour should be pale and straw coloured so use that as a hydration guide.
Its normal to feel sore for a bit – just take it easy x
