      Hi All,

I was banded 6 weeks ago..first thing was I was. Expecting no pain… some on a different forum said it was a tad uncomfortable.. a couple. Of paracetamol will sort it.

I woke up in agony, in my head I thought ok this is it by December  I would of lost all the weight.. by the 3rd week doing everything I should of one I bloody gained 4lbs.  Devastated .. but as I had the band an for me £6500 is a lot of money, so carried on.   Still no significant weight loss. 1lb here 1lb there. Mentally I’m not sure if I can go much lower … no one told me that the weight doesn’t come off until the first few fills! So if the first doesn’t work… then you keep going back and fourth till it does … however I’m slipping back into old habits and eaten things over h last 2days I never though I would eat again.  Sugar/ carbs/  am I the only cheaters?

      Hi Loraine

Please don’t call yourself a cheater, its so hard not to slip back into old habits at the start mainly because peoples expectation of what they know and have been told about the band are definitely not met at this stage.  The band is in but not working as people think – (expecting small portions/no hunger and weight loss) once all the swelling subsides then most can eat as normal, so they do… simple as that.  Then the mind starts to kick in and people look at themselves as a failure and then the journey starts to have a negative vibe and let me reassure you this is the majority of the patients I see at the first fill.  People are so hard on themselves, and its really hard not to be, as you have come to spend out on the surgery and rightly it is a big cost, which adds more pressure on the patient.

All I can say at this stage, is try your best with your diet, allow controlled snacks or healthy snacks.  Your portions may be bigger than you would like at this stage, completely normal, so eat off a big plate still, fill up on healthy food rather than trying to self control your portions and leave yourself hungry in 1 hour..

Your first fill is just around the corner, and a few fills in hopefully you will start to see just how amazing the band is as a weight loss tool.

If you are someone who likes to follow diet plans etc, why not have a look at the BandBoozled diet plan for anyone who’s band is not working optimally yet and would like some focus with there diet

Keep the faith and keep chatting for support, the first few months can be more a psychological challenge too, sometimes you need the reassurance that what your going through is normal

      You can do this xx

      Hey Lorraine,

Sorry u feel so bad. Look, were all different and the band works differently for everyone. Ive had mine for 3 years and im still learning and experimenting with food ect…

Your at the very beginning  and its going to be a great journey. Some highs and some not lows but questionable moments haha.

It is alot of money and i expected my world to change over night but in reality thats just not the case.

Look when you start getting fills theres no doubt about it it will work, ive never got to my goal YET ! Haha but i have maintained a weight and ive always fluxuated i know ive lost 2 stone for ever and some people loose quicker and slower than others.

Im my own worst enemy with my weight and body so trust me when i say i know how you feel.

Once you start experimenting with food and getting to know your band, it can be fun. Im always trying nee foods. Make this journey as enjoyable as you can, you have done this just for you. Take it easy you will get there.

So sorry I didn’t get back to you.  I’ve come off of all other forums, as they are so negative, and I started to get upset.  I haven’t used this site as much as I should of done.

      Im feeling a lot better.

      Thank you.

      Hi Lorraine

So glad you are feeling better.

Don’t worry – just use us when  you want to – no pressure, we are always here.

Sometimes people only post when they have problems so it’s just the negative sides you hear about. We will certainly try to keep our Cafe friendly and upbeat and commenting on all the positive things about the band journey too 😃
